Abstract

Penelitian ini dilatar belakangi dengan adanya fenomena yang terjadi pada siswa MTsN 5 Solok Selatan: ada yang memiliki self-esteem rendah tetapi self-confidence tinggi, sementara yang lain memiliki self-esteem tinggi tetapi self-confidence rendah. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui ada atau tidaknya hubungan antara tingkat harga diri dan kepercayaan diri siswa di MTsN 5 Solok Selatan, dan jika ada, seberapa kuat hubungan tersebut. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan korelatif kuantitatif dengan menghubungkan variabel X dan Y. Populasi sampel penelitian mencakup semua 88 siswa kelas delapan. Penelitian ini menggunakan teknik sampel lengkap dengan jumlah siswa 88 orang. Inventori self-esteem dan angket kepercayaan diri digunakan sebagai alat pengumpulan data. Hasil penelitian tentang hubungan antara self-esteem dan self-confidence siswa menghasilkan rxy -0,212, dengan rtabel df = 86 menghasilkan 0,209 dan tingkat signifikansi 0,05. Diketahui bahwa rhitung rtabel menunjukkan adanya hubungan negatif antara self-esteem dengan self-confidence siswa kelas VIII MTsN 5 Solok Selatan, dengan Ha diterima dan Ho ditolak. Indeks korelasi antara 0,20 hingga 0,399 menunjukkan korelasi yang lemah atau melemah. Temuan studi ini menunjukkan bahwa siswa dengan harga diri tinggi sedangkan kepercayaan diri rendah, dan begitupun sebaliknya bahwa siswa dengan harga diri rendah sedangkan kepercayaan diri tinggi.
