Dalam menafsirkan Al-Qur’an para mufassir sering sekali menggunakan Syair untuk menjelaskan makna sebuah kata atau kalimat karena Syair adalah identitas bangsa arab,Akan tetapi menariknya Mahmud Yunus dalam penafsiranya memasukkan unsur unsur lokal seperti ungkapan,pribahasa,petatah-petitih dalam bahasa Minang yang ia uraikan agar mudah dipahami oleh pembaca. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui biografi Mahmud Yunus dan mengetahui Sastra Melayu & Minangkabau yang terdapat dalam tafsir Mahmud Yunus. Metode yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah metode kualitatif.
