Dengan diundangkannya UU PPTPPU, hukum TPPU di Indonesia mengalami pergeseran besar. Perubahan paling signifikan termasuk memberikan wewenang yang lebih bnayak kepada PPATK berbanding dengan undang-undang yang lama, meskipun tidak memberikan wewenang untuk menyelidiki. Beberapa wewenang baru termasuk penghentian dan pemeriksaan sementara transaksi, rekomendasi penyadapan, peraturan informasi, dan kerja sama dalam maupun luar negeri, baik multilateral serta bilateral. PPATK memiliki tugas strategis dan penting untuk program pemulihan aset, terutama dalam menyediakan informasi finansial untuk melacak harta kekayaan. Kewenangan PPATK untuk menjatuhkan sanksi administratif sangat terkait dengan penerapan Mekanisme tindakan yang dapat dijalankan
